Travel in another country is really hard work. Friday night I landed at London Heathrow, walked forever to get to the exit, took the express train from the airport to central London, took 2 subways to the stop nearest my hotel, walked another 5 minutes to my hotel - all with luggage! I was about ready to cry. But it seemed like cheating to take a taxi to the hotel when it was over an hour away. The hotel is super-cool. Like a cross between Frank Lloyd Wright and Ikea/Copenhagen style decor. My "room" has 2 levels. The downstairs is a tv room, kitchenette & bathroom. The upstairs is the bedroom & it has slanted ceiling with windows looking up. Super breeze and a great relaxing way to wake up in the morning. There was a robe and slippers waiting for me. Nice! I'll post photos once I have a faster internet connection for uploading.
Friday night I adventured out near the hotel and window-shopped and found a small restaraunt serving wood-fired pizza and wine. Ahhh... Finished the Piccoult book and moving on to Sidney Poitier's Measure of a Man. What a life he has had.
Saturday I slept in til 10 (heaven) and then set off for the Tate Modern Art Museum. Had lunch at a cafe by the River Thames. Then adventured to the Loop knitting store. I bought some alpaca in a shade called huckleberry which is a super-soft and purple. Should make a nice scarf. I rested up a bit back at the hotel and then set off for Wicked.I had to take 2 different subways on my way to the show and when I got to the 2nd one, it was closed due to a stuck subway car. Eek what's a girl to do? So I had to take a bus for the 2nd half of the route. Whew! I barely made it in time for the show.
I thought the musical was really good and clever. Much better than the book. I liked the characters, the humor, the songs, and the costumes. It was visually very impressive - from the flying monkey to the emerald city. I don't remember how closely it follows the book because I really thought the book was much darker. Was there really a happy ending in the book? Now off to bed. Tomorrow I can decide between the National Gallery and the Tower of London....

Your weekend sounds wonderful. I hope you aren't lonely, although it's me that usually suffers from loniness when traveling. I loved Wicked, both the book and the show. My brother gave me "The Ugle Step-Sister" yesterday. He said it was one of his favorite books. I just finished a good book called, "The Memories We Keep." Sad, distrurbing, but good. I'm looking out at the ocean right now; we are in Mexico Sunday - Tuesday this week. I'm loving it! I think the headings on my comments to your blog are in Spanish. :) Take care and be safe, Lexy. I miss you.
